I am Kay. So Buttery Skin started in my kitchen, which is fitting because Pound Cake is the most kitchen smelling thing we make. I created it after a long day of testing eczema formulas for my daughter, when I was craving something that just smelled good. Vanilla and a whisper of lemon, made by hand the way I make everything.

What is inside

The base is rich and creamy shea butter, sweet almond oil, rosehip oil, and vitamin E. That is it. We add vanilla and a hint of lemon for the scent. The shea is unrefined, the sweet almond oil softens it and helps it glide, the rosehip oil goes to the driest spots, and the vitamin E keeps the oils fresh. Eight ounces, plant based, made in small batches. Contains sweet almond oil (tree nut).

Warm bakery, vanilla forward, with a whisper of citrus. The smell of a slice of cake on a Sunday afternoon. It is built for comfort scent, hard day, the body butter you keep sniffing your own wrist for.

How to use it

After your shower, while your skin is still a little damp, scoop a small amount and warm it between your palms. Smooth it onto arms, legs, chest, and anywhere that runs dry. A small amount goes a long way. Use within twelve months of opening. Store at room temperature out of direct sun. Once your jar is low, grab a refill pouch to save on every reorder.

Is the scent too sweet?

It is bakery sweet rather than candy sweet. Most customers describe it as cozy and warm. The scent settles down quickly once it warms on your skin, so it never feels heavy.

Is this safe for sensitive skin?

The base is the same plant based formula as the rest of our body butters. If your skin is very reactive, start with our Eczema Relief Body Butter first and add scents once your skin is calm.

Is this safe for eczema prone skin?

If you are in an active flare, start with our Eczema Relief Body Butter. Once skin is calm, this scent and our other gentle scents tend to work well. Patch test on the inside of your wrist first.

How long does an 8 ounce jar last?

With daily full body use, about six to eight weeks. With targeted spot use on hands, elbows, and dry patches, much longer.

Can I use this on my face?

We recommend our Face Collection for face. The body butter is rich and works best on the body and hands, where the skin is thicker.

Who makes these?

I do. My name is Kay, and I make every jar by hand in small batches in Leonardtown, Maryland. It started with a body butter for my daughter's skin, and Jeremiah and I turned it into So Buttery Skin in 2023.

What is in the body butters?

Every scented and unscented body butter starts with shea butter, sweet almond oil, rosehip oil and vitamin E. The scented ones add essential oils, and the Unscented has none. The Eczema Soothing jar has its own formula: shea, mango and avocado butters, jojoba oil, hemp seed oil, vitamin E and a light touch of tea tree and lavender. Any allergens I should know about?

Yes. Sweet almond oil is a tree nut, and it is in all of the scented body butters and the Unscented. If you have a nut allergy, check the Ingredients tab before you buy, and patch test anything new on a small spot of skin first.

Is it vegan and cruelty free?

Yes. Everything is plant based and nothing is tested on animals.

How should I store it?

Somewhere cool and out of direct sun. Shea butter softens in the heat and firms up in the cold, and that is normal. If a jar arrives soft on a hot day, pop it in the fridge for twenty minutes.
