Lemon Body Butter for Dry and Sensitive Skin

Some mornings she needs a body butter that wakes her up before the coffee does. Lemon is that scent. Bright, a little sweet on the dry down, the smell of a clean kitchen and a window cracked to let in spring. She uses it on her arms before she pulls on a sweater, and the whole day feels a little lighter for it.

I am Kay. So Buttery Skin started in my kitchen after my daughter's eczema turned me into an ingredient detective. Once we had her formula calm, I started adding scents I missed from my mom's kitchen. Lemon was the obvious first one, because it smells like the pound cake she used to bake on Sunday afternoons.

What is inside

The base is rich and creamy shea butter, sweet almond oil, rosehip oil, and vitamin E. That is it. We add lemon essential oil for the scent. The shea is unrefined, the sweet almond oil softens it and helps it glide, the rosehip oil goes to the driest spots, and the vitamin E keeps the oils fresh. Eight ounces, plant based, made in small batches. Contains sweet almond oil (tree nut).

What it smells like

Bright, sunny, slightly sweet on the dry down. It smells like a clean kitchen and fresh laundry. It is built for morning, post workout, anytime you need the window opened.

How to use it

After your shower, while your skin is still a little damp, scoop a small amount and warm it between your palms. Smooth it onto arms, legs, chest, and anywhere that runs dry. A small amount goes a long way. Use within twelve months of opening. Store at room temperature out of direct sun. Once your jar is low, grab a refill pouch to save on every reorder.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will lemon irritate sensitive skin?

Our lemon is used at a low cosmetic level, but very reactive skin can find any citrus too bright. Start with a small patch test on your inner wrist, or pick our Unscented Body Butter if you are unsure.

Does it smell like cleaning supplies?

Not at all. It is the soft, peel forward smell you get from zesting a fresh lemon, not the chemical lemon of a household cleaner.

Is this safe for eczema prone skin?

If you are in an active flare, start with our Eczema Relief Body Butter. Once skin is calm, this scent and our other gentle scents tend to work well. Patch test on the inside of your wrist first.

How long does an 8 ounce jar last?

With daily full body use, about six to eight weeks. With targeted spot use on hands, elbows, and dry patches, much longer.

Can I use this on my face?

We recommend our Face Collection for face. The body butter is rich and works best on the body and hands, where the skin is thicker.

Who makes these?

I do. My name is Kay, and I make every jar by hand in small batches in Leonardtown, Maryland. It started with a body butter for my daughter's skin, and Jeremiah and I turned it into So Buttery Skin in 2023.

What is in the body butters?

Every scented and unscented body butter starts with shea butter, sweet almond oil, rosehip oil and vitamin E. The scented ones add essential oils, and the Unscented has none. The Eczema Soothing jar has its own formula: shea, mango and avocado butters, jojoba oil, hemp seed oil, vitamin E and a light touch of tea tree and lavender. Any allergens I should know about?

Yes. Sweet almond oil is a tree nut, and it is in all of the scented body butters and the Unscented. If you have a nut allergy, check the Ingredients tab before you buy, and patch test anything new on a small spot of skin first.

Is it vegan and cruelty free?

Yes. Everything is plant based and nothing is tested on animals.

How should I store it?

Somewhere cool and out of direct sun. Shea butter softens in the heat and firms up in the cold, and that is normal. If a jar arrives soft on a hot day, pop it in the fridge for twenty minutes.
