I am Kay. I started So Buttery Skin in my kitchen after years of trying to find something safe for my daughter's eczema. Once her skin was strong again, lavender was the first scent I added for myself, because it reminded me of the herbs my mom kept by the back door in late summer. This butter is what I reach for the night before a big day.

What is inside

The base is rich and creamy shea butter, sweet almond oil, rosehip oil, and vitamin E. That is it. We add lavender essential oil for the scent. The shea is unrefined, the sweet almond oil softens it and helps it glide, the rosehip oil goes to the driest spots, and the vitamin E keeps the oils fresh. Eight ounces, plant based, made in small batches. Contains sweet almond oil (tree nut).

What it smells like

Calming and softly floral, a little herbal underneath. The opposite of a loud perfume. It is built for nighttime wind down, sleep ritual, stressful days.

How to use it

After your shower, while your skin is still a little damp, scoop a small amount and warm it between your palms. Smooth it onto arms, legs, chest, and anywhere that runs dry. A small amount goes a long way. Use within twelve months of opening. Store at room temperature out of direct sun. Once your jar is low, grab a refill pouch to save on every reorder.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is lavender safe during pregnancy?

Many pregnant customers use our lavender body butter without issue, and the essential oil sits at a low cosmetic level. Every pregnancy is different though, so check in with your provider to be safe.

Will lavender actually help me sleep?

We do not make medical claims, but a lot of customers say the scent has become a sleep cue. The act of slowing down to apply body butter is half the magic.

Is this safe for eczema prone skin?

If you are in an active flare, start with our Eczema Relief Body Butter. Once skin is calm, this scent and our other gentle scents tend to work well. Patch test on the inside of your wrist first.

How long does an 8 ounce jar last?

With daily full body use, about six to eight weeks. With targeted spot use on hands, elbows, and dry patches, much longer.

Can I use this on my face?

We recommend our Face Collection for face. The body butter is rich and works best on the body and hands, where the skin is thicker.

Who makes these?

I do. My name is Kay, and I make every jar by hand in small batches in Leonardtown, Maryland. It started with a body butter for my daughter's skin, and Jeremiah and I turned it into So Buttery Skin in 2023.

What is in the body butters?

Every scented and unscented body butter starts with shea butter, sweet almond oil, rosehip oil and vitamin E. The scented ones add essential oils, and the Unscented has none. The Eczema Soothing jar has its own formula: shea, mango and avocado butters, jojoba oil, hemp seed oil, vitamin E and a light touch of tea tree and lavender. Any allergens I should know about?

Yes. Sweet almond oil is a tree nut, and it is in all of the scented body butters and the Unscented. If you have a nut allergy, check the Ingredients tab before you buy, and patch test anything new on a small spot of skin first.

Is it vegan and cruelty free?

Yes. Everything is plant based and nothing is tested on animals.

How should I store it?

Somewhere cool and out of direct sun. Shea butter softens in the heat and firms up in the cold, and that is normal. If a jar arrives soft on a hot day, pop it in the fridge for twenty minutes.
